Tarlac State University continues its mission to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by sealing a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Tarlac (PCCI Tarlac) on July 26, 2022, held at the Main AVR.
This partnership, initiated by the College of Business and Accountancy (CBA), will further provide technical support for enhancing the production capability of MSMEs. These include trademark and patenting services, trainings, and seminars, among others.
Through the services provided by the University Research Office (URO), Extension Services Management Office (ESMO), and Technology Development, Transfer, and Commercialization Office (TDTCO), the university is aimed to share knowledge or technology with MSMEs suited for the commercialization of their products.
The university has several potential leaders who are experts in this field and are willing to share their time and services with the partner MSMEs.
PCCI Tarlac envisions helping around 200 MSMEs in the future with the help of TSU.
"Since TSU is known as one the most reputable [universities] in the country, we are honored in this collaboration. This program will benefit the Tarlaqueños, not only the businesspersons but also the other cabalens, because more jobs will be created as businesses expand. On behalf of the PCCI Tarlac, we would like to express our profound gratitude for this," said PCCI Tarlac president Mr. Leonardo Cudo.
With this agreement, TSU is expected to link MSMEs to other government agencies and private entities that could give them further assistance.
The university will also do the service monitoring of the project and schedule of visits. TSU shall also maintain the confidentiality of all information and documents provided.
In return, PCCI Tarlac shall express every request through a letter for every assistance needed.
"TSU affirms its commitment and purpose to PCCI to provide numerous research and extension programs that offer technical assistance to improve the production capacity of MSMEs. These programs include a provision of research services, trademark and patenting services, trainings, seminars, and technical assistance consultancy services in the conduct of coaching and mentoring activities," TSU President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco said in his speech.
TSU has helped MSMEs like Daytao's Native Cakes with its food safety manual documentation, food safety compliant layout assistance, and product and process improvement.
Another is RP Corpus Food & Beverages, which the university also assisted with its food safety manual documentation, FDA – LTO application, food safety compliant layout, and product and process improvement.
Moreover, the university also prioritizes non-food businesses. Bale Mi Farms in Barangay Balanti, Tarlac City was assisted with its trademark registration application.
